The Why – Because places like this rarely happen twice

Le Jardin isn’t just a villa—it’s a sensorial curiosity house. For families craving high‑design splashed with adventure, or creatives seeking a retreat that doesn’t take itself too seriously, it offers dramaturgy and luxury in equal measure. It’s rare to find a place where art, hospitality and childlike wonder coexist so harmoniously.

Where to book?

Arrival – When the gates open, wonder begins

Drive off Devon Valley Road through rolling vineyards that whisper tranquillity. At the gated entrance, Le Jardin reveals itself—a Cape Dutch manor framed by lavender fields and rose bushes, as if stepped from a bygone era. Below century‑old oaks, lawns stretch toward a lily‑dappled dam and hidden eco‑pool. Welcome to your private escape.

Setting – Cypress, teepees and a dash of theatre

Set on five lush acres outside Stellenbosch, the villa melds heritage architecture and playful installations: an antique jetty, a Tintin rocket in the kids’ bedroom, a glasshouse nestled around mature trees, a zip‑line over water and a teepee village within the garden. These elements invoke an Alice‑in‑Wonderland atmosphere—where both children and style‑savvy adults roam carefree.

The Interiors – Where wallpapers talk and spaces perform

The Manor House

Upstairs: three ensuite bedrooms featuring a king suite with bath and shower, a double‑plus single kid’s suite, and a guest room with shower—all opening onto balcony views. A TV room and media lounge with fireplaces anchor lively evenings.

Downstairs: reception rooms blend formal elegance (crystal chandeliers, art‑filled library, gin bar with underground cellar) with social conviviality around the Aga kitchen and tasting room.

Pool Pavilion & Rocket Room

Adjacent sits the Pool Pavilion housing three separate ensuite suites—into the Wild, Full Bloom and The Rocket family suite (featuring a giant Tintin rocket motif). A kitchenette lets families settle in independently, yet remain connected to main house rhythms.

History Beneath – A house with heritage in its bones

Originally built in 1934 by a protégé of Sir Herbert Baker, Le Jardin retains its Cape Dutch bones—white gables, symmetrical façades and verandas. Over two decades, Swiss‑French and South African owners infused playful art, bold wallpapers and collected paintings by Pieter van der Westhuizen and even Andy Warhol. What might once have felt stately now pulses with joyful surprise.

Atmosphere – Magic measured in shadows and stillness

Every corner surprises: inflatable flamingos poolside, a glasshouse that reads like woodland theatre, evening open‑air cinema under fairy lights, long shadows across lawns, and staff lighting fireplaces as dusk falls. The atmosphere is one of slow‑burn magic—rich, layered and quietly theatrical.
